To Take or Not to Take....

In Empire Strikes Back, where Luke feels "cold, death" and Yoda tells him to basically check it out but also says, "Your weapons, you will not need them."

I know it's Yoda's way of testing Luke, but I think I would fail that test too. Not knowing what was in there, having never been on Dagobah, and yes even though I'm supposed to trust my master, I would take my weapons with me too. I'd be afraid of getting attacked or worse, eaten.

So I would fail. My question to you all is this: would you fail? Would you take your weapons or choose to just go in there without them?

Well, Luke misinterprets Yoda's warning as he asked Yoda what he'd find there, thus asking why he wouldn't need his weapons and Yoda told him he'd find "only what you take with you".
Luke grabs his weapons and as he finds out he fights a battle he can't win. At least, not with weapons.

As for the question, I don't feel comfortable when I'm without my equipment, but I made the experience that this feeling of added security is an illusion because my hopes shouldn't cling to an object, be it chemical mace, a baton or a just lucky charm.
As a teenager, I'd have taken my weapons with me and thus failed the test; but from my present point of view, I'd listen to my master's advice and go without.

That's a good explanation, thank you for that. I totally see it in a different way now, so words could/would also win whatever you set out to do. So I guess that's why Yoda said that? Because Jedi first speak, then fight if they have to.

I wonder what would have happened had Luke not taken his weapons...
