Are there any fans of the Game of Thrones TV series and/or A Song of Fire and Ice novels?

Much of it is filmed in Northern Ireland, where I'm from. It's fantastic to see something on Tv and to see it in your own country.

Two of the sets are close to me - Winterfell (which is a National Trust (charity) property), and the windmill that Bran and that little group hid in (it was a windmill! But for a lead mine!). I van see the windmill from my home, too!

I never realised it was partly filmed in Northern Ireland.

Interesting to be able to see something in a TV sereies, close to home. The village I live in has figured in a few TV series over the years as there are some fairly historic properties there.

Nice to know it is somewhere relatively local to me, living in England.

It's great to see part of your home country in a TV series!

I know some is filmed here, Iceland and Malta.

The film, "Your Highness", was filmed entirely in Northern Ireland. One of our more famous landscapes, the Giant's Causeway, was featured in it! It's instantly recognisable for its rock columns.

I saw a preview of it on tv and it looked good, but I was never into it. So if I came into the series I have a feeling I'd be totally lost. What's it about?

I'll do my best to explain it, but anyone else can add to and/or correct anything I've posted here.

GoT/ASoFaI is a fantasy series following several noble houses, all of which are trying to claim the Iron Throne to rule their country; there are a couple of other side plots that are central to the story. one is following the daughter of a murdered king, who is keen to claim the Iron Throne and will try and get it by any means possible (aka dragons). The other is a threat by zombie-like creatures (the Others) that are making a reappearance again after a thousand years.

It has a medieval-y type setting, with a mix of supernatural creatures (e.g. dragons, the Others) and skills (e.g. a person mind swapping with an animal), and extinct animals (e.g. direwolves and aurochs). The class system is very medieval, along with the view on women, although there are some very strong female characters present. There are quite a lot of mentions of sex and scenes of violence in the books, which is ramped up in the series.

I would recommend the series as it is enjoyable to watch/read. I know that quite a lot of people aren't fond of GoT due to the copious amounts of sex and violence. :/

Finished watching Season 4 Episode 1 before breakfast. Recorded from a channel on my Satellite TV. Shown at 2am this morning (I presume the same time as the US). Pleased to note it was broadcast at that time with no advert breaks! Unfortunately it is only on next Monday in the evening.

I will be interested to see how the story develops in this series.

Now watching the half hour documentary that followed it with some behind the scenes etc.

I hopefully have it recorded for me to watch at the weekend when I'm back from uni! I have some idea what happens this season, so it'll be good to see how they adapt it to TV!

Thank you for the explanation AnyaSkywalker.  I'm not a fan of when there's a lot of sex in a show...and I just found out I can't watch it.  It's on HBO, a channel I do not get.   Neutral
Have fun watching it guys, it does look interesting.

I still have Episode 1 on my Sky+, so could transfer it to DVD if the worst came to the worst, if you, for some reason don't have it recorded. Havind said that, it is on Sky Atlantic again at 9pm on Sunday.
